I met Tom in the organic garden at the University of Guelph. I am optimistic about the future.

A little about Tom. As shared by Tom.

I'm working for Backyard Bounty as an urban farmer, and am currently responsible for the maintenance of 25 backyard properties throughout Guelph.  We grow and harvest vegetables in these gardens, then distribute them to restaurants and markets in Guelph.  We also have a 115 member CSA, where each shareholder comes and picks up their veggies once a week for 20 weeks at a central location downtown.  My interest in urban farming stems from a concern of our current food system's sustainability, rural land is overburdened and there is a heavy reliance on oil products within industrial agriculture.  I see urban agriculture as an opportunity to demonstrate alternative methods to growing, while at the same time educating the populace on what it takes to grow food.
